The championships the title refers to are Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu not MMA competitions - consequently if BJJ is your
interest then this is a serious book to consider. Most of
the techniques make full use of the gi so it will be of little
use if you train without one. The rules and strategy of BJJ
competitions are gone in to, with a useful appendix of BJJ
rules. The book has around 75 'fighting' techniques and an
additional filler of 20 one person and two person drills.
All the techniques are well photographed and annotated - up
to the usual excellent Invisible Cities Press standards.
If you have some BJJ experience then there will
be familiar moves here as well as ones you wont have seen
before. This book concentrates on the nuts and bolts of BJJ
and so time is spent on all aspects of the game; sweeps, reversals,
escapes, submissions and so on.
I have had difficulty to get the techniques
from the book into the dojo and less inspirational than other
BJJ books of this excellent quality. However this is a solid
book but slightly overshadowed by other titles from this publisher.
Don't make this your first BJJ title, but worth adding to
your library.
