High Roundhouse
Kick Defence-Counters
The high roundhouse is performed a little differently by each style,
but its basic principals are always the same. The roundhouse kick
comes in towards the target from the side, striking with the shin/instep
and is either snapped back after making contact or used as a baseball
bat and swung through the target...

Self-Defense
- 3 Critical Elements of a Good Self-Defense Stance
Almost everyone is familiar with the concept of the martial arts
or self-defense stance. Every style or school of self-defense seems
to have it's own unique forms or stances. Some are said to be derived
from the movements and natural defenses of animals, while others
seem to have been created at the whim of the system's creator...

Defending
Against Rear Or Side Grabs
Ordinarily, one will find themselves being grabbed and dragged
backward by an assailant with either of his hands (depending), and
having the other hand chambered to knock your head off. These grabs
can be from strangers, ex-boy/girl friends, and various other irate
people. They must be taken seriously and must be defended as such,
due to your natural vulnerability from the rear. I'll share two
variations of the same escape with you, it never fails to "peel
them off"...

Self
Defense is Dependent Upon Causing Damage - Not Just "Pain"
I'm very realistic about self defense training. I know that the
only way to survive a street fight or attempted mugging is to injure
your attacker to the point that he is combat-ineffective. That's
why I always have to laugh when someone teaches a self defense class
and tries to show off with his knowledge of "pressure points." He
takes one of his students, presses on a certain spot...

The
First Rule of Self Defense - Avoid a Fight at All Costs, Especially
a Fair Fight!
Lots of people give the advice of always avoiding a fight if you
can. That is very good advice. I mean, no matter how good you are,
there is always a chance that you will be injured in a fight, but
no matter how bad you are, there is never a chance of you being
injured in a fight if you never are involved in one...

Ranges Of
Contact In Self Defence
A lot has been written about the subject of self-defence, much
of it good, a lot of it completely useless rubbish. There are several

safe, healthy and secure...

Street Fighting

You are on the street, maybe walking out to your car after eating
out. Your martial awareness clues you that all is not right. You
notice a big, mean-looking guy about 40 feet away. What's more important
is that you realize, he has noticed you...

Why Your Self
Defense Doesn't Work
Reason # 1 is awareness. By paying attention to
your surroundings you can see “what is wrong” with your environment
and be able to detect the attack ahead of time and respond accordingly.
Inner awareness is even more important because if you’re distracted
by thoughts or if you’re not able to remain calm, the attacker will
get the best of you...

Self Defense Tips
Do as much as you can to avoid a confrontation - "anticipation
and avoidance" are the key words. If you get caught up in a situation,
try to talk to an aggressor without provoking them. Practice relaxation,
as appearing fearful or stressed can actually provoke an attack.
Remember that body language is important in aggressive situations,
so maintain a comfortable distance between you and the aggressor...

Basic Self Defense
The First lesson to learn in Self-Defense is that you are important.
The most valuable possession you will ever have is you. No-one has
the right to hurt, intimidate or harass you. You have the right
to protect yourself and you are well worth fighting for. The second
most important lesson is to learn to understand that your mind is
your most valuable weapon, in self-Defense we use...
