Arts Sparring - Is Sparring Practice In Martial Arts A Waste Of
Time?
Does non-contact point sparring actually decrease your ability to
defend yourself in a real situation? After all, you’re pulling punches,
avoiding eye gouges, bone breaking, wrist locks and the like. How
can you learn to defend yourself when you’re restricting your options...

The
Fluid Motion Of The Snake Lends Itself To Kung Fu
I’ve been doing snake style Kung Fu for going on 8 years now. Once
I moved into Kung Fu styles, snake was the first one I picked up,
because of its similarities to jiu jutsu. Like jiu jutsu, snake
style kung fu is all about transmitting core body strength from
the abdomen to the arms, and uses a lot of joint locks and grapples.
Unlike jiu jutsu, it uses a more open stance, and tries for greater
fluidity in motion, with more arm strikes and kicks...

Little
Known Ways To Master Strengthening And Conditioning To Become A
Better Martial Artist
If you are involved with martial arts then you know first hand
how grueling it can be when it comes to training. This is because
martial arts is a very physical activity. Whether you participate
in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kung fu or Hap Ki Do you pretty much do
the same routines when it comes to strengthening and conditioning
of the body...

Empty Your Cup
I first heard this comment in an interview with Bruce Lee. Later,
I learned more about this concept in Joe Hyams' book, "Zen in the
Martial Arts." The quote comes from a story Bruce Lee was relating
to Mr. Hyams where a master was trying to make a point to an...

Martial Arts Business
The most famous text on Budo strategy is Sun Tzu’s “Art of War”

Instructional
Fighting Videos for Self Defense
I’ve spent a number of years studying self-defense and I still
find myself fascinated by the martial arts. It all started when
I was a teenager and I was watching a demonstration where an elderly
man was up against two large bodybuilders in their mid 20s. These
two young men took turns attacking the old man, but he just kept
throwing them around the stage like a couple of rag dolls...

Way of Quan -
Tao of Martial Art
We assert that there is a core essence of movement and style that
everyone already has ready within them. Everybody already knows
all of the moves. Just as a baby naturally has the ability to walk
already contained within its potential, so all of the knowledge
of how to use martial arts is contained within each and every person.
All of the movements that anyone ever learned to do already existed
as a possibility within their body before they learned them - they
were already part of the host of movements that their bodies were
potentially capable of performing...

Reputations and
Expectations
*Reputations* in martial arts are a game of mythology. There is
really only one way to know how good someone is at martial arts
- seeing is believing. And by this we do not mean seeing someone
have a light spar, or training forms or one steps - we mean actually
having a fight, a real fight, with someone who wants to beat them
up (or at the very least a tournament bout.) Until that happens,
you can't ever really be sure that any person, master or otherwise...

Arts Training: More Than Just Self-Defense
According to the FBI, four women die everyday as a result of domestic
violence and about 130,000 women report that they've been victims
of rape or attempted rape annually. Because of statistics like this,
many women enroll in self-defense classes to learn the skills they
need to defend themselves...

Rules When Picking a Martial Arts School
Looking for a martial arts school can be a tricky proposition.
I know, because I talk to people everyday who are trying to decide

instruction for themselves, their children, or the whole family...

Budget
Travel for Martial Arts Karate Tournaments
Once martial arts competitors and coaches decide to follow one of
the large karate circuits like NASKA or NBL, it will soon be realized
that participation in this sport can be very expensive. Many years
ago, I attended a seminar conducted by Charlie Lee...
