Street Fighting Moves - Interview With Andy Curtiss - How to Make $120,000 and More As a Bodyguard

Author: Charles Prosper
Date Posted: February 22, 2009

Charles: Glad to have you here today, Andy. Tell us something about yourself. What is your background?

Andy: Well, I am a former Green Beret, U.S. Special Forces, Special Operations Command. I have two black belts, a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Shuru Tae Kenpo. I have a brown belt in Jiu Jutsu, and I have also designed my own military knife and hand-to-hand combat program as well as the fact that I am a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter.

Charles: Wow! I've think you've just about covered the gamut. With what we were talking about today, I found fascinating when I first heard about it and I could hardly believe it, that it is quite possible for what you term a Private Security Contractor or better known as a bodyguard to be able make over $120,000 a year. Is that really possible?

Andy: Yes, it is possible. $120,000 a year or more.

Charles: Wow! Can you give us, let's say the top 4 secrets, or tips that one could use to go about to be able to do this?

Andy: Yeah, but before I go into all of that, I just want everybody to know that, it is not for everybody. The 4 tips that I could give anyone would be:

1. Training - You got to have the right training.
2. Experience - You have to have experience in certain areas.
3. Secret Security Clearance - You have got to be able to obtain a minimum of a Secret Security Clearance.
4. You Need To Know Someone - It's all about who you know.

Charles: When you say right training, what are you talking about?

Andy: Well, most corporations that deal in these matters, are looking for people that are former Special Forces, Special Operations, Marine Force Recon, Air Force Para Rescue, Army Ranger or Navy SEAL.

Charles: You said something also about experience in certain areas. What areas would that be?

Andy: Hostile combat areas.

Charles: Are you talking about war and war situations?

Andy: Yeah. They prefer somebody who has experience in war zones and hostile fire areas. Somebody who's been there and can keep a cool head under fire.

Charles: And what is a Secret Security Clearance? What is that?

Andy: Okay, there are several types of Secret Security Clearances. Some come from the Department of Defense. Some come from the Department of State or State Department. Basically a Secret Security Clearance is a background check that has been done on the individual and that individual has been deemed trustworthy of secret information. This is according to the government standards.

Charles: And the last one you said is all who you know. Can you elaborate on that one a little bit more?

Andy: Sure, I think probably today the most popular company that does this stuff is a company called Blackwater U.S.A.

Charles: Is that a private company?

Andy: It is a private company. As you may know, they have been in the news for what's going on in Iraq, Afghanistan and soon and so forth, but there are a number of other companies that are also private companies that the mainstream public has just not heard about. And basically you have to know somebody within that company to be able to get a job. You either know a recruiter or somebody who's an employee of those companies.

Charles: And who do you bodyguard, and where do you go?

Andy: Well, the people that you bodyguard are usually diplomatic officials either for the United States or other countries. And you could go anywhere in the world. It's a worldwide assignment.

Charles: Well, Andy. You're the man. You've been the one to open us up to see things that we could have never seen otherwise. And we thank you for this interview.

Andy: I thank you.
