Your Mindset Is More Important Than Knowing 100s Of Different
Techniques?
The truth has a certain ring to it doesn't it? It feels right?
The simple truth like many things in life, learning the basic principles
are essential so learning self-defense is no different. It's principles
that lay down the general rules.
You see, once the fundamentals are established you can learn to
think for yourself. No matter how long you have been training in
any form of martial art, in the end it all comes down to learning
the basic fundamentals of that system.
In the beginning the start of any training programme precepts are
needed the core principles must be taught and learned or the student
will accomplish nothing.
Self-defense has been evolving over thousands of years and has
come a long way since then. Training at the Shaolin temple in China
a student monk learned the techniques of Kung Fu, in combination
with his spiritual training. (Mindset)
They learned Kung Fu in order to protect themselves whilst they
went about their business unarmed. At that time, there were many
robbers and murderers (sound familiar), looking for their next victim
walking the mountain paths and tracks and the unarmed monks were
good prey. No pun intended.
Back then body hardening, hard work and dedication was the order
of the day. Unlike now were most people live a much more sedately
lifestyle. Therefore, it is no surprise that their training regime
was strict and it took many years of dedicated training to master
the correct techniques as well as the correct mindset.
From China to the samurai warriors of Japan (the warrior class)
all had knowledge of armed and unarmed combat for self-defense.
Of course, it was very different than it is today, were only the
select and privileged group of people were allowed or chosen to
train in the combat arts.
The way they learned the moves was simply by watching the techniques
performed by the master of the art over and over again. (Monkey
see monkey do). A move would be demonstrated until the student by
constant practice learned how to do it correctly.
As time passed these old ways of teaching gave way to new philosophy
to more modern methods. It moved from trial and error to the instructor
or master working with the student, so instead of the master just
showing the way he actually began teaching the student which lead
to something more like a partnership with education to enhance both
the masters and the student's experience.
What this meant was: step-by-step explanations. Practically unheard
of at that time.
Now, books and training films offer even more detailed instruction,
explanation of technique and why you are required to do the technique
in that way. As a result instructors see themselves as more of an
educator than just an instructor.
It's important to realize for the student to thrive a helpful instructor
will provide a good and realistic learning environment that will
help you advance in your training no matter how hard or difficult
the training becomes.
When You Hear The Truth, You Know It.
But the true fact is, there is no magic formula that can guarantee
you a victory in combat. Because in the end it all comes down to
the basic principles you were taught in the beginning.
If you have the mindset to win at any cost no matter what and remember
the core principles of simple self defence tactics (keep it simple)
will help your chances of victory and survival in an unprovoked
violent attack on your person.
It's true, learning just a few good techniques that have been proven
to work in real world situations is far better than spending years
and years in a dojo learning 100s of techniques that do not.
Because, by the time you realize your fancy moves don't work you'll
be seriously injured or even worse. And, you'll be wishing you remembered
the core principles of simple self-defence tactics, which is: Simple
is best!
Core principles of the correct attitude and realistic training
for street self-defence (mindset) pressure training scenarios) over
learning hundreds of different techniques must be taught and learned
or the student will accomplish nothing. Except maybe place himself/herself
in mortal danger.
In Short, "on the street there is no second chance and no rules".
