| Written
by the son of the author of "Best Aikido - The Fundamentals"
and grandson of the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba,
the theme of this book is "variation", with more
techniques demonstrated and fully illustrated than most other
aikido titles. Many moves are illustrated in both their omote
and ura forms, thus offering a full and broad understanding
of not only the physical aspects, but also of the philosophical
essence of this popular discipline.

4 out of 5 - December 19, 2003
I recently ordered this publication, and was
quite surprised that the format was very similar to the old
set of five books published by Morihiro Saito Sensei in the
early 1970's. The beginning of the book has very clear stylized
photo's taken in the Aikikai Hombu, in front of the now very
famous calligraphy by O Sensei. Doshu concentrates on the
same techniques all the way through the book from different
attacks. Also some Jo, Bokken & Tanto techniques. Although,
I am Sure Saito Sensei would not be too happy with the one
Jo technique, where the hand should be inside the jo, and
not outside as demonstrated. Far from me to correct the Doshu
of the Aikikai.
The pictures are quite easy to follow, unlike
some Aikido publications. This book would suit a medium Kyu
grade to Dan grade level. If the reader is interested in weapon
work, this book has very little to offer, and perhaps the
fore mentioned Saito Sensei series would be more of interest.
